[Poem] The Dirges by Hassan Idris
THE DIRGES
I'm a lover,
I bring my own dirges
bore out of betrayal.
I have tried long enough
to tarry on, my femur
still complained of my
haste.
Enough is enough, I
want to chew my soul
to death, maybe make
her lunch for vultures,
then leave her to you.
And If she dies, wrap her
with a white garment
of sorrow and take her to
the cemetery.
Tell my folks, tell
Aboo Rayhanah,tell
Aboo Haneefa I have
fought enough. Perhaps,
the battle is a battle
of defeat.
My lamentation is taken
as fantasy, as I spewed
her out with poetry, do
I realize I'm a depressed
soul bore out of betrayal.
Don't call me suicidal, I
have delved enough into
this kingdom of love but
was defeated by her.
I'm beating my drums
for departure, her betrayal
has caused me rapture.
Don't send me angels
from the North, else
my heart will still sink in
that ship of betrayal. I
have had enough and
enough is enough.
I have sang enough, I want
to keep mute, layed down
on the shores of the earth
to take a rest.
